About the museum
The Friedensbibliothek-Antikriegsmuseum belongs to the Evangelische Kirche Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz (Protestant Church of Berlin, Brandenburg and Silesian Upper Lusatia). Its work began in 1970 with a first semi-public exhibition on Hiroshima and Nagasaki; since 1982 the exhibitions have been fully public. A permanent exhibition room opened on May 31, 1984, and the Friedensbibliothek (peace library) opened on April 9, 1985.
Since January 2000 the institution has been housed in the House of Democracy and Human Rights on Greifswalder Straße. The library holds around 11,000 titles, including on history and politics, biographies, philosophy, education, art and photography. A large part of the work consists of exhibitions available for loan, which had been shown in 610 places in 15 countries by the end of 2025.
The name Antikriegsmuseum recalls the first anti-war museum of the pacifist Ernst Friedrich in Berlin. The institution documents its history with historical photographs, above all from the First World War.
