About the museum
Friedrich Rückert, born in 1788 in Schweinfurt, was a poet, translator, linguist and founder of German Oriental studies. In 1838 he acquired an estate farm built in 1776 in Neuses near Coburg, which became his main residence. From 1848 until his death in 1866 he lived and worked there permanently.
His descendants opened the study as a memorial, with its furniture, books and fittings in the condition in which he left them. On display is, among other things, the poet's standing desk. Visits to the poet's room are possible on request.
About one kilometer away, on the Goldberg, stands the garden house that Rückert had built from 1837 and moved into in 1846. It became his favorite place, where the more than 8,000 poems of his "Liedertagebuch" (song diary) were written. Part of the garden is now open to the public as the Rückertpark, where a bust commemorates the poet.
