About the museum
The GeesthachtMuseum! is housed in the so-called Krügersches Haus on Bergedorfer Straße. The Low German hall house dates from the early 18th century and was the only building of its time to survive the two city fires of 1887 and 1928; it is therefore regarded as the oldest surviving house in the town.
After a conversion, the town of Geesthacht established a museum here in 1988, with an archive and a cultural meeting place. The municipal archive has since moved to the town hall; today the building houses the tourist information office alongside the museum.
The permanent exhibition on the town's history, set up in 2005, is currently being revised and is closed. Until then the museum shows changing exhibitions, ranging from retrospectives by regional artists to school projects.
