About the museum
The gallery goes back to a donation: in 1984, the Ukrainian sculptor Gregor Kruk (1911–1988) gave the city of Königsbrunn 73 sculptures and 9 drawings from his life's work. The occasion was the artist's friendship with the then first mayor, Friedrich Wohlfarth.
Kruk was born in 1911 in Bratysziw near Lemberg (Lviv) and had lived in Germany since 1937. He first studied at the Kraków Academy of Art and continued his studies on a scholarship at the Hochschule für bildende Kunst in Berlin. His works are scattered across many cities; according to the city, the Königsbrunn collection is one of the largest of its kind.
On the 100th anniversary of the artist's birth in 2011, the works were presented in the foyer of the town hall on the Marktplatz, where they are still shown today.
