About the museum
The Heimat- und Bauernmuseum in Mappach, a district of Bruck, is run by the Heimat- und Bauernmuseumsverein Mappach (association). Across about 850 m² of exhibition space, it shows rural and farming life in earlier times in a small Upper Palatinate market town. At its heart is a historic collection from farm and craft work; individual sections cover schooling, medical care in the past and church history, among other topics.
Since 2014 an annex has been part of the building. It was funded by the European Fisheries Fund and addresses pond fish farming in the Upper Palatinate. Visitors can explore the Postloh forest pond area, which lies not far from Mappach; interactive panels and a replica pond illustrate the landscape. The outdoor area has also been redesigned.
The grounds include a covered exhibition area on questions about the carp, a 600 m² carp pond that is fished regularly, and a fisherman's hut with a zille (flat boat) and equipment. The house also hosts lectures, Heimat evenings and special exhibitions.
