About the museum
The Museum Amöneburg is housed in the Old Brewery directly behind the town hall. It looks at the settlement of the Amöneburg basin from the Old Stone Age to modern times. The prominent hill already attracted people in Celtic times and was developed into a fortified town; the fertile surrounding land has been settled since the Stone Age.
On display are, among other things, stone axes, urns, models of the Celtic town fortifications, Roman finds, the skeleton of a Franconian warrior and a diorama of the 1762 Battle of the Brücker Mühle during the Seven Years' War. The jewelry of a woman buried about 2,500 years ago in the Brücker forest, including a Wendehals ring, is one of the striking pieces.
The town of Amöneburg runs the museum in cooperation with the Heimat- und Verkehrsverein (local heritage and traffic association), under volunteer management. The attic houses the Naturschutz-InfoZentrum (NIZA, nature conservation info center). Lectures and excursions to find sites such as the Mardorf gold hoard or the Brücker forest complement the program.
