About the museum
The local history museum opened in 1984 together with the Archiv Karl Blum. Everything on display has been gathered by citizens and members of the association Heimatmuseum-Archiv Karl Blum from finds, donations and loans.
The exhibition reaches back to the early 18th century and tells the story of the former villages of Hettenheim and Leidelheim, which have formed Hettenleidelheim together since 1556. Its distinctive feature is clay mining, carried on in the Eisenberg basin since 1767: at its peak at the end of the 19th century more than a hundred pits shaped the landscape, and the clay was delivered as far as the USA. A reconstructed clay mine tunnel with tools, pictures and documents shows the working life of the miners.
Added to this are agricultural and craft tools, association history, a kitchen from around 1900, a shoemaker's workshop, a sewing room and a Tante-Emma shop (old-style corner grocery). The archive preserves the research of the local historian and honorary citizen Karl Blum, including 31 book manuscripts, 60 family trees of long-established families and over 200 individual essays.
