Motorrad- und Technikmuseum Leiningerland
Association-run museum in Quirnheim with over 80 historic motorcycles and mopeds as well as engines, line shafting, radios, and everyday technology.
About the museum
The sponsoring association was founded in April 1991 with 57 members. At first the collection was to be housed in basement rooms of Burg Altleiningen. However, because a strictly protected bat colony lived there, this plan was abandoned again the same year.
A new opportunity arose in 1998, when the US armed forces gave up their station on the Kleine Wust near Quirnheim. The association members modernized part of the former barracks through their own labor, and the municipality of Quirnheim additionally built an exhibition hall and made it available to the association. In 2001 the museum was finally able to open.
Today the association has around 200 members, whose vehicles and collectibles make up a large part of the exhibition. On view are over 80 motorized two-wheelers by German and international manufacturers, plus stationary engines, a working line-shaft transmission, tools, as well as radios, typewriters, and cameras. A particular concern is to bring the technology and craftsmanship of past decades closer to especially young visitors; for this reason, as many exhibits as possible are to remain drivable or functional. Classic car meetings, rallies, and changing special shows complement the program.
