About the museum

On behalf of the municipality, the Böhl-Iggelheim Local Heritage and Museum Association looks after two museums in the district of Iggelheim. According to dendrochronological analysis, the Old Town Hall on Langgasse was built in 1499, making it the oldest town hall in the Palatinate. Court was once held beneath the open arcade on the ground floor, and the tiny village jail lies under the staircase. A bell from 1810 hangs in the tower, which narrowly escaped being melted down in the Second World War; the town hall clock of 1775 still runs in the attic.

The Old Schoolhouse on Haßlocher Straße was built in 1769 as a Reformed school with a teacher's apartment and was extended in 1816. It later served as a nursery school, party office, billet and emergency housing. In 1987 the municipality gave the association its first rooms so that a donated porcelain collection could be shown; after renovation the museum opened in 1992. In the late 1990s, further rooms and the barn of 1808 were added.

The Old Town Hall focuses on local history, life around 1900 and linen production, including the bleaching and indigo dyeing of the Bechtold family. The Old Schoolhouse shows a classroom from around 1900, a collection of fine tableware porcelain from the Bednorz bequest, agricultural tools and archaeological finds from the region.
