About the museum
The local history museum is housed in the Ältestes Haus (Oldest House) of Haßloch, a stately half-timbered building from 1599 on Gillergasse. The architect Hans Hauck restored the building; in 1986 it opened to the public as a museum. In 2026 the municipality also celebrates 140 years of museum work in Haßloch and 40 years of the local history museum in the Oldest House.
The exhibition shows the rural folk culture of the Vorderpfalz from the 17th to the 20th century: a living room with furniture and tableware of a prosperous farm from the late 19th century, a kitchen, a bedroom with textiles and a hiding place discovered during restoration, a classroom from the period 1920 to 1950, and a children's room with toys, including a handmade carousel model from 1920. In the barn are agricultural tools and a fully furnished cobbler's workshop; in the vaulted cellar are tools of viticulture.
Further areas are devoted to textile crafts and everyday objects; in addition there are archaeological finds from the Bronze Age to the Roman period. A herb garden with medicinal and culinary plants belongs to the property. The house also serves as a venue for hands-on programs, workshops and tours.
