Since 1987 the former lower mill on Mühlenstraße has housed the local history museum of the town of Elze. The complex lies directly on the Saale and, with its outdoor area, looks very idyllic.
The house shows changing exhibitions on different themes and hosts film screenings, readings and other events; the mill floor serves as an atmospheric hall. The old, still intact mill complex can be viewed by arrangement.
The museum has a wedding room, and the adjoining museum garden with its own baking oven is also used as a wedding garden for outdoor ceremonies. The museum is run by the town local history officer, Fred Ossenkopp.
Admission is free.
