About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Falkenstein occupies the upper floor of Falkenstein Castle on Schloßplatz. It is run by the Falkenstein Heimat- und Museumsverein and, alongside the permanent exhibition, presents special exhibitions on particular occasions, traditionally including a Christmas exhibition.
The permanent exhibition includes a recreated Vogtland farmhouse parlor of the early 19th century, evidence of the town's history and the local textile industry with a Jacquard loom and a mural of the town fire of 1859, as well as objects on forest trades and mining. There are also mechanical Heimatberge, a nativity mountain and an extensive collection of Moosmänner and Moosweiblein (moss men and moss women). Highlights include the Falkenstein astronomical clock and the restored hovering angel from around 1699, first shown in 2008.
