About the museum
On March 18, 1995, the Heimatverein Trieb-Schönau set up a first village room in the former “Schule zu Trieb und Schönau”, which was founded in 1881 and whose teachers can be traced back to 1774. It was meant to preserve local history, awaken memories and also serve as a meeting place. That is why a Hutzenstube with coffee and homemade cake is part of it.
What began as one room became two, then three. In 2006, with support from the city of Falkenstein, foundations, sponsors and association members, an extension and redesign followed. The association took over nearly the entire school building and has since shown seven rooms.
The exhibition ranges from a village shoemaker’s shop and the crafts of hairdresser, stonemason and joiner, to a 200-year-old hand loom, the history of the school and clubs, and “Uromas Waschtag” (Great-Grandma’s Washday), as well as model railway layouts relating to the Voigtländische Staatseisenbahn. For Christmas, Easter and other occasions, special exhibitions are set up in the meeting room. The Hutzenstube hosts concerts and dialect evenings.
