About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Giesen is housed in a residential building from the late 19th century in the middle of the village. The rather unassuming building was donated to the municipality on condition that it be used exclusively as a heritage room. The Heimatverein Giesen (local history association) looks after the house.
The original room layout has been preserved, and most of the rooms now serve as exhibition spaces. Visitors see a kitchen, a parlor and a bedroom, furnished mainly with furniture and household items from the past two centuries. On the ground floor there is also a larger room with tables and chairs for meetings and events.
In the district of Ahrbergen, a second local history museum belonging to the municipality shows archive material and finds from the village in the former village schoolhouse.
