About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Güls was founded in 1969 by committed local citizens and is still run on a voluntary basis by the Heimatmuseum Güls e. V. It occupies the first floor of the Old School, built in the first half of the 19th century, which stands opposite the Romanesque village church in the middle of this Koblenz Mosel district and offers around 180 square metres of exhibition space.
The collection documents the history of the Mosel village, above all life and work on the river as well as cherry growing and trading. This shaped Güls from the early 19th century and made the village Germany's largest cherry market in the 1920s and 1930s, before it declined in importance after 1960.
In changing exhibitions the museum takes up a different facet of “Heimat” (home) each time and involves people from the district. Most recently, the anniversary exhibition for Güls's 1,250th year, which ran until February 2026, told the village's history through original objects, documents and photographs; a supporting programme ranging from museum cinema to a cocktail tour complemented it. The museum is part of the MuseumsRoute Moseltal.
