About the museum

Freiherr Jakob Tilmann von Hallberg had the Hallberger Schloss built together with its chapel between 1728 and 1731. After a forced auction in 1815 the complex fell into disrepair and was used as a storehouse, shed and commercial space. In 1968 citizens of Fußgönheim joined together in the Heimat- und Kulturkreis (Heimat and Culture Circle) to halt the decay of the only Hallberg palace; in 1972 the Catholic parish acquired the building and restored it with support from the population.

The local history museum of the municipality, which the Heimat- und Kulturkreis looks after, is housed in rooms of the palace. It displays finds from prehistory and early history, photos and documents on the association and village history, historical textiles, agricultural tools, military objects and toys, and charters of the barons and counts of Hallberg. Topics such as washing and ironing and the palace's former owners are also covered.

According to the association, its collection is shown in 16 exhibition rooms with over 10,000 objects, and it uses further buildings in the village. In the museum wing and the palace barn, exhibitions by regional artists, readings and concerts also take place. Since 1977 the association has held an Easter craft market.
