About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Uffing grew out of the props from the festival for the village's 1,250th anniversary in 1989: models, parade costumes and photos were not to disappear back into storage. At the suggestion of village chronicler Franz Huber, the former fire station built in 1949 was prepared as a permanent exhibition space; from 1990 the first objects were on display there.
As donations and long-term loans grew the collection, the building was extended, and in 1996 the museum opened in its present form. Franz Huber led it on a volunteer basis for more than thirty years; since 2023, Chiara Nassauer-Boitsos and Nikolaos Boitsos have run the house, supported by volunteer helpers. The sponsor is the municipality of Uffing am Staffelsee.
The new permanent exhibition DORFWELTEN tells the story of the place over two floors, from the first settlement thousands of years ago to life at Lake Staffelsee today, complemented by geography and the region's animal and plant life. Images, multimedia areas and hands-on stations also appeal to children. In the entrance area, exhibitions by local artists and themed shows on village and social history rotate.
