About the museum
The building at Bahnhofstraße 2 was a small farmstead in the 18th century and was converted into a commercial building around 1850. From 1855 a textile merchant ran a shop here, which was continued by several owners until the 1950s. In 1988 the Flecken Lutter acquired the property from the heirs.
As part of the village renewal, the listed house was renovated and inaugurated as a museum in October 1989. Across three floors, rooms have been furnished including a shoemaker's and a tailor's workshop, an old classroom, a bedroom and a nursery, a 1950s living room, the good parlour around 1900, Grandma's kitchen and a photo lab.
A separate history room is devoted to local history, the Battle of Lutter am Barenberge (1626) and the local sandstone industry. The museum is run by the Museums- und Kulturverein Lutter am Barenberge e. V.
