About the museum

The building on Bertholdstraße was erected in 1730 as Hofstelle (farm site) No. 7 and is one of the oldest houses in the village. About 120 years later it went to a cigar dealer, who lived there and ran a cigar trading business; around 1900 a textile dealer also rented a shop in the house. In 1936 the municipality of Holle took over the building and used it as a residence and later as a school.

In January 1981 the municipality's local heritage working group initially took over two rooms. By 1984 the museum had grown to ten rooms; today the entire house is run by the Verein für Heimatpflege und Naturschutz Holle (association for local heritage and nature conservation). The 24 exhibition rooms show objects from across the municipality on agriculture, crafts, domestic life, school and childhood, needlework, fossils and native animals. A special feature is a country doctor's practice with medical instruments from around 1930. In the attic, models show the village of Derneburg and Hackenstedt around 1850. A room on the first floor serves the municipal civil registry office as a wedding room.
