Heimatmuseum Sauerlach
Volunteer-run local history museum in Arget with a Troadkasten, old rectory and Bundwerkstadl – over 3,500 objects on rural life.
About the museum
The museum grounds lie in the protected ensemble on Holzkirchener Straße in Arget, considered the last fully preserved linear village in the Munich area. It began with the Troadkasten, a granary of log planks built in 1667 at the Garnerhof. In 1988 it was moved, carefully renovated and, with the help of Munich County, rebuilt on the grounds of the old rectory; in 1991 the museum opened there with a village festival.
Gradually the Förderverein Heimatfreunde Sauerlach, whose members run the museum on a volunteer basis, took over further buildings: the single-roof farmhouse built in 1682 as the rectory of the parish of St. Michael, which housed the Arget municipal administration until 1978, and the Bundwerkstadl of 1855 with an integrated older Troadkasten. In 1995 a classroom and shoemaker's workshop were added, in 2007 the spinning and weaving room, in 2009 the Bundwerkstadl opened, and in 2015 a room on municipal history.
On about 2,100 square meters of grounds, more than 3,500 exhibits in about 50 thematic areas can now be seen, most of them from Sauerlach and the neighboring villages. These include a complete elementary schoolroom, the exhibition "Vom Korn zum Brot" (from grain to bread), flax processing, a historic farm kitchen with food storage, a sewing machine collection, traditional costumes, the old Arget fire pump and the tower clock of St. Andreas. On the second floor of the rectory, art exhibitions take place on open days.
