About the museum

The Wolfschneiderhof is a small farmstead on Münchener Straße in Taufkirchen whose buildings date from the 18th century. The municipality acquired the dilapidated farm in 1983 and had it painstakingly restored according to historical plans; it has been a listed monument ever since.

Over the years, the then municipal heritage officer Ernst Kistler had collected more than 2,000 household and farming implements. With expert advice, he used them to set up the first municipal local history museum in the district of Munich, which opened in 1986. The opening celebration was also the founding meeting of the friends' association "Freunde des Wolfschneiderhofes in Taufkirchen."

The parlor, bedroom and kitchen show how modestly the former inhabitants lived. The property includes a small bakehouse (Backhäusl), where the association holds baking days. At Kistler's suggestion, a Celtic house was also built in 1996 – a replica of an Iron Age building that presents archaeological finds from the Hachinger Tal. The friends' association organizes museum days and traditional customs events throughout the year.
