About the museum

The Heimatmuseum Stein was set up by the Heimat- und Kulturverein Stein and opened on May 31, 2008. The association runs the house and also uses the building as a meeting place for its events.

The museum is housed in the oldest building in the town on Mühlstraße. The protected property was built in 1635 and enlarged in 1690; for a long time it was an inn, at first under the name "Zum goldenen Adler." Because the innkeeper also ran the post station around 1900, it was later called "Gasthaus zur Post." In 1988 the town of Stein bought the house and had it extensively restored.

On about 120 square meters the association shows donations and loans from Stein's citizens. The exhibition sheds light on the village's past through crafts and industry as well as family and club life. The association also regularly organizes themed exhibitions on local history.
