Heimatmuseum Steinbach

About the museum

The Heimatmuseum Steinbach is set up on two floors of the local primary school on Parallelstraße. It offers insight into daily life in the time of our great-grandparents and shows the life of Saarland's mining farmers, who worked their fields alongside their work underground.

Four extensive exhibitions use large-format photographs to show how families lived, worked, celebrated and were active in clubs. A reconstructed kitchen, a fully furnished living room and a bedroom from around 1900 illustrate living conditions. Craft rooms present rare or extinct professions; mining and smelting equipment and historical photos of Steinbach complete the display. In the original dairy kitchen, visitors can make butter in the traditional way.
