About the museum
The Heimatverein Versmold was founded in 1937. After about two decades of society work with lectures, hikes and monument preservation, planning for its own museum began in 1993, for which members collected donations. It opened in 1994 in a half-timbered cottage from the 18th century, typical of the Ravensberg region.
Just a year later the society built a coach house for agricultural implements; over the years a bakehouse, smithy, carpenter's shop, tailor's room, shoemaker's workshop, beehouse, farm garden and orchard meadow were added. The buildings and workshops are looked after by volunteers.
The permanent exhibitions deal with linen and sailcloth, the path from home slaughtering to the meat-processing industry, and household and farming. In addition, the museum shows several changing exhibitions each year on local history and customs.
