About the museum

The motorcycle museum in Greffen, a district of Harsewinkel, goes back to the collector couple Heiner and Christa Beckmann. Heiner Beckmann (1946–2014) opened the private collection at Easter 1990; since his death, Christa Beckmann has continued to run the museum.

The museum is housed on an old half-timbered farm with several buildings, in which two-wheelers are displayed on about 1,000 square meters. The focus is on motorcycles from the first half of the 20th century, especially by German manufacturers such as BMW, DKW, Horex, and NSU, complemented by rare makes from the early days of the motorcycle. Some machines have been elaborately restored, while others are deliberately presented in their aged original condition. One building is dedicated to vehicles from the GDR; commercial vehicles and tractors stand in the outdoor area.

A second collection is devoted to historic dolls made of fabric, porcelain, and celluloid, ranging from the Biedermeier period to the 1950s. Together with scooters and old commercial vehicles, this gives a varied view of technology and everyday culture.

Beyond the region, the museum is known as the host of the Internationale Spökenkiekerfahrt, an annual ride for motorcycles built before the First World War.
