About the museum
The Heimatstube has been housed in the Klosterhof since 1980, a building dating from 1648. It is run by the Steinheim local heritage association, which maintains local customs, demonstrates old craft techniques and preserves objects from earlier times.
The collection is diverse: there are early Alemannic finds, a working medieval bakehouse, a fully preserved forge, a cobbler's workshop and the monastery kitchen. A special feature is the legacy of the hermit Sofonias Theuß, who was in China during the Boxer Rebellion in 1900 and brought back art objects, which he bequeathed to the municipality.
On the upper floor, traditional costumes, tools and mementos recall the expellees from the Danube Swabian villages of Neudorf-Batschko Novo Selo and Weindorf, who found a new home in Steinheim. Every year on October 3, a festival is held in the Klosterhof, when the historic bread oven is fired up.
