About the museum
The local history museum in the Bergtor in Kirchberg, a district of Niedenstein, has existed since 1992. It is run by the Kirchberg history and local heritage association, founded in 1991.
It is housed in the Bergtor and an adjoining building which formerly belonged to the manor farm of the noble Hund family. The buildings were renovated with public funding and a great deal of volunteer work.
The exhibition is devoted to rural life in past centuries with household and work implements, documents on village history and an extensive collection of old photographs. Finds from the church excavations of 1979/80 complement the display. Kirchberg was first mentioned in documents in 1017.
