About the museum

The weaver's house at Königsstraße 48 was built in 1858. It shows the typical features of the weaver's houses that were built in large numbers in St. Hubert at the time: many families earned their living by home weaving on commission for the Krefeld velvet and silk industry.

Today the house is the seat of the Heimatverein St. Hubert, founded in 1964, which has just under 1,600 members and is one of the larger associations in the village. The association collects and documents local and family history, old documents, pictures and everyday objects, and it has set up a Heimatstube (local history room) in the weaver's house.

On the annual open house days, visitors get an impression of life in rural communities around 1900. Traditional craftsmanship and works by hobby artists are shown, and weaving takes place on a historic hand loom. Groups may also visit the house outside these days by arrangement. Civil wedding ceremonies are also held in the weaver's house; the property includes a paved inner courtyard and a farm garden.
