About the museum
Burgstädt physician Johannes Böttger practiced in his office from 1927 to 1971; it was considered the most modern in Saxony. After his death in 1986, his widow, who had once been his medical assistant, set up the rooms as a museum, true to the original. The displays included instruments from World War I and from obstetrics, one of the earliest still-working fluoroscopy and X-ray machines, an early ECG device, and a foot-powered dental drill.
In May 2010 the local museum association opened the Museum Arztpraxis in new rooms on Dr.-Robert-Koch-Straße. It presented aspects of 20th-century medicine, with a treatment room, X-ray machines from the Dresden firm Koch & Sterzel dating from 1930 to 1950, a women's health department with a 1910 examination chair, a field hospital, and dental equipment. That museum is now closed.
Today the non-profit association punctum.maximum e.V. is setting up a medical history museum at Rochlitzer Straße 2. The exhibitions are still being assembled; the building remains temporarily closed due to extensive renovation work.
