About the museum

The Kinderfilmhaus Ludwigsburg is a student-run educational project of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (film academy). A team of students shows children and young people how an idea becomes a screenplay step by step and finally a film, how special effects are created, and how animated and live-action films differ. The house sees itself as a supplementary educational offer that promotes media literacy.

It is located in the Aldinger Torhaus on Robert-Franck-Allee. Visitors get to know film sets and experience, in two tour formats (animation and live action), how professional films are made. At the end, participants usually take home a short film they made or animated themselves. Besides guided tours, there are workshops, group workshops, school tours and children's birthday parties with a shared screening. The project is supported, among others, by the City of Ludwigsburg and a foundation of the Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg (district savings bank).

Payment only in cash on site. Rebooking and cancellation are free up to 72 hours before the appointment; after that, €25 is charged. A USB stick for the film can be brought along or bought on site for €8.

Walk-ins are welcome at the open house (first and third Wednesday of the month, 15:00–18:00). Otherwise, visits are generally on weekends and on Wednesdays 15:00–18:00 by registration via the form on the website, at least two to four weeks in advance; school classes can request weekday dates. Group workshops take place on the third Saturday of the month at 15:00.

Closed from December 1, 2026 until further notice: Winter break for maintenance work: no regular bookings from December 1; closed over Christmas until the second week of January. Appointments already arranged will take place.
