About the museum
The iMUSEt grew out of an initiative by history enthusiasts who came together in 2007 and in October 2009 founded a non-profit association to build an industrial museum for Schönebeck. In 2010 the association acquired four buildings of a former industrial site, and in 2011 the first partial opening followed.
The listed main buildings were converted step by step, also with state funding; the exterior conversion was completed in 2023. In 2016 two art exhibitions were added, whereupon the museum changed from an industrial museum to an industrial and art museum.
The exhibition is devoted to the industrial history of Schönebeck and its surroundings: including chemistry, explosives and munitions production, vehicle construction with the history of the Siegel company, tractors made in the GDR, foundry, printing, energy, and fashion and cosmetics. The art show presents works from the Künstlerstadt Schönebeck (artists' town) and the life's work of the sculptor Dario Malkowski. The museum is part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH).
