Radsportmuseum Course de la Paix

Association-run museum in Kleinmühlingen on the history of the Peace Race (Internationale Friedensfahrt) and of competitive cycling.

About the museum

For decades the Internationale Friedensfahrt (Peace Race) was regarded as the toughest stage race for amateurs; in 2006 it took place for what was, for the time being, the last time. Even before that, the cycling enthusiast Horst Schäfer had set up a small exhibition on the Peace Race in Kleinmühlingen, which quickly grew through loans and donations from former riders and fans, from racing bikes and jerseys to program booklets, pennants and autographs.

When space ran out, the association Radfreizeit, Radsportgeschichte und Friedensfahrt and the municipality planned a new building. After the foundation stone was laid in 2005, the building was constructed largely through volunteer work and in-kind donations from numerous companies; the cycling legend Täve Schur also raised donations for the project for years. On November 24, 2007, the Radsportmuseum "Course de la Paix" was officially opened in the presence of former racers.

The museum is still run by the association and looked after by volunteers. It shows exhibits on the history of the Peace Race and other races such as the Rügenrundfahrt, and serves as a meeting place for former riders, for example at anniversary and birthday celebrations for Täve Schur. The association also organizes cycling events in the region, including the "Kleine Friedensfahrt".
