Jünger-Haus Wilflingen
Literary museum in the forester's house in Wilflingen where Ernst Jünger lived for almost 50 years – living rooms, library and beetle collection preserved as he left them.
About the museum
The house is the Baroque head forester's lodge of the Schenk von Stauffenberg family, dating from 1728. The writer, officer and entomologist Ernst Jünger lived here for almost half a century until his death in February 1998. During that time his living environment changed several times, for instance when his secretary Armin Mohler moved out, with his second marriage and as his collections grew.
At the initiative of the district of Biberach, the Kreissparkasse Biberach savings bank established the Ernst-Jünger-Stiftung in 1997, which rents and runs the house. In 1999 it opened as a museum and memorial site in cooperation with the Arbeitsstelle für literarische Museen in Marbach. The library, art objects and personal documents belong to the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach (German Literature Archive), the furniture to the foundation, and the beetle collection is privately owned.
The house was cleared in 2009 for a comprehensive renovation, after every object had been carefully documented. Once the work was completed in 2010/2011, staff from the Literature Archive refurnished the rooms exactly as they had looked in 1998, the year of Jünger's death. Since June 2016 the permanent exhibition “Waldgang in Wilflingen” on the first floor has complemented the tour: eight media stations explore Jünger's life and work, each paired with an object from his household. In the attic, a room commemorates his brother, the poet Friedrich Georg Jünger.
