Gewandhaus Museum Inneringen
Fashion museum in a half-timbered house of 1790 in Inneringen: handmade historic costumes and figurines from 500 years of fashion history.
About the museum
The museum goes back to the costume designer Ilse Wolf from Inneringen and her daughter Katja Morrison, who lives in New Zealand. Over decades, the two made elaborate historic garments that were worn at the Carnival of Venice, among other places. Together with the town of Hettingen and local associations, the idea arose to show these works permanently.
From 2013, a half-timbered house of 1790 on the main road through Inneringen was renovated as the museum building; a large part of the costs came from the LEADER funding program of the EU and the state. The Gewandhaus Museum opened in May 2015.
Each room is devoted to a fashion era and furnished accordingly. On display are life-size costumes with accessories and embroidery as well as around 150 small figurines showing the courtly fashion of past centuries. The house is run by a volunteer association.
