Villeroy & Boch Welt
Villeroy & Boch's brand world in the Alte Abtei (Old Abbey) in Mettlach, with ceramics from over 250 years, insights into design and production, and interactive rooms.
About the museum
Villeroy & Boch has long presented its company and ceramics history at its headquarters in Mettlach. The company's ceramics museum was first housed in Schloss Ziegelberg and moved in the 1990s into the Baroque Alte Abtei, the historic company seat and former production site. For the company's 250th anniversary in 1998, the Keravision experience exhibition was added there.
As part of the Mettlach 2.0 site project, which Villeroy & Boch has pursued with the municipality of Mettlach since 2010, the Alte Abtei and its surroundings were modernized and the exhibition was fundamentally redesigned. It has been open as the Villeroy & Boch Welt since January 23, 2025; the outlet on the first floor has existed since November 2024. A new path now leads across the abbey grounds to Mettlach's pedestrian zone.
On more than 2,000 square meters, staged rooms lead through the company's design, manufacturing, and product worlds; visitors can explore a product designer's workshop and learn more about production at interactive stations. On view are historic ceramics from over 250 years, such as tableware made of earthenware and porcelain, Mettlach tiles, and sanitary ceramics. In 2026 the exhibition received the German Brand Award. In the adjoining abbey park stand the Alter Turm (Old Tower), the oldest sacred structure in Saarland, and the Schinkelbrunnen (Schinkel Fountain).
