About the museum
The Kuhländchen lies in the upper course of the Oder in the former Sudetenland. After the expulsion, the Kuhländler began collecting keepsakes, chronicles and everyday objects. The first homeland archive for Neutitschein and the Kuhländchen was built up by Gustav Stumpf in Fulda until his death in 1962; his collection later came to Ludwigsburg, which had taken on the sponsorship (Patenschaft) for the Kuhländchen in 1961.
The sponsoring city provided the Stuttgarter Torhaus, where the royal guards were once housed. At the 10th Kuhländler federal meeting on July 1, 1972, the newly designed Kuhländler Archive with homeland room, with about 140 square meters of exhibition space, was presented to the public. In 1976 a non-profit foundation was approved to preserve and further develop the cultural heritage independently.
The archive holds records from numerous home communities, photographs, books, manuscripts and documents relating to important personalities. The homeland room shows, among other things, Kuhländler costumes, embroidery, everyday objects and wooden figures.
