About the museum

The Kita-Museum goes back to Heidemarie Waninger, who first set it up as the "Museum Kindergärten in Deutschland" in Oranienburg. The collection then moved several times, including to Potsdam, Groß Glienicke and Nennhausen. In Nennhausen, a "Lernwerkstatt Kita-Museum" opened in December 2009 in a former school building on Fontanestraße, with eight rooms on early childhood education, childcare in the GDR and the Federal Republic, and pedagogical approaches such as Montessori, Fröbel and Reggio.

Today the museum is housed in a Gründerzeit villa in Falkensee. Across four floors, original objects from kindergartens in East and West Germany are set up as learning workshop rooms, where visitors can discover traditional and modern concepts of early education. The sponsor is the association pädal – Pädagogik aktuell e. V.
