About the museum
The museum at Falkenhagener Straße 77 is housed in a historic building and run by the town of Falkensee; the association "Freunde und Förderer von Museum und Galerie Falkensee" (friends and supporters) supports its work. Alongside the permanent exhibition, there is a gallery for contemporary art, rooms for changing exhibitions, and a rose garden.
The permanent exhibition "Zeiteinblicke" (Glimpses of Time) combines the natural world and fauna of the Havelland region, archaeological finds from the region, and town history. A bird and butterfly collection documents local nature; the exhibition also covers the Nazi era, Falkensee's reconstruction after 1945, and life in the shadow of the Wall. Film documents conclude the tour.
The museum has a particular focus on the poet Gertrud Kolmar (1894–1943), who lived in her parents' house in Falkensee-Finkenkrug from 1923 until January 1939 and wrote almost her entire work there. The museum also looks after the Geschichtspark (history park) on Hamburger Straße, which commemorates the Falkensee concentration camp subcamp (1943–1945); tours there are arranged through the museum.
