About the museum
The market tower on Riedenburger Straße is the last surviving one of originally four such buildings in Pförring. It was built around 1450 to 1500, formed a fortification together with the market wall, and initially served for observation. Later, various families lived in it, most recently Katharina and Martin Pögerl (1930 to 1942). The municipality acquired the tower, and the museum has been housed in it since 2000.
The museum was furnished by display designer Rudolf Lohr and his wife Renate. They show the life of a twelve-member cottager family at the beginning of the nineteenth century: kitchen and living room, crafts and agricultural implements, and the Herrgottswinkel (traditional devotional corner). Many of the exhibits come from the couple's private collection.
The family is represented by life-size, hand-painted Käthe Kruse dolls, which once served as shop-window figures in a department store in Ingolstadt and had been discarded before Rudolf Lohr rescued them. Their clothing consists of old, unaltered fabrics and garments. Despite the small exhibition space, there are many details to discover, down to the attic hatch with a doll at a spinning wheel.
