Kriminalmuseum Fürth
Association-run museum in the vaulted cellar of Fürth City Hall on 200 years of police, justice, and crime history, with a walk-in crime scene.
About the museum
In early 2007, lawyers, police officers, and forensic physicians, on the initiative of the then Senior Public Prosecutor Stephan Popp, founded a friends' association with the aim of presenting the history of police, justice, and crime in Fürth and at the same time promoting crime prevention. The city council made basement rooms in City Hall available for this purpose, which were rented and fitted out from 2009.
Officers of the Fürth criminal police inspectorate and physicians from the Institute of Forensic Medicine Erlangen-Nürnberg, among others, helped with the setup. The museum opened in September 2010; to this day it is run by the association and volunteer helpers.
On around 200 square meters in the vaulted cellar, the exhibition shows Fürth's police history since the early 19th century, the history of the district court, and spectacular criminal cases of the past two centuries. Themed rooms on counterfeit money and weapons, drugs, state security, riots, and forensic medicine as well as a re-created crime scene explain investigative work and evidence collection. Readings and lectures take place regularly.
