About the museum

The starting point of the Ludwig Erhard Zentrum (LEZ) is Ludwig Erhard's protected birthplace near the Fürth town hall. The private Stiftung Ludwig-Erhard-Haus, supported by the Ludwig-Erhard-Initiativkreis Fürth, bought the building in 2013 and had it renovated; across from it a striking new building was erected.

On June 20, 2018, the 70th anniversary of the 1948 currency reform, the LEZ opened with a citizens' festival. The project, costing around €18 million, was financed by the federal government, the Free State of Bavaria, the City of Fürth and the foundation. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier performed the inauguration.

The 1,400-square-meter permanent exhibition begins in the former apartment of the Erhard family and, in the birthplace, covers the "Fürther Erhard" and the period up to 1945. The new building follows with the politician, the Social Market Economy and the development of the Federal Republic. The tour ends with a digital "Zukunftsraum". In addition there are special exhibitions, a learning supermarket and the Café Luise.
