About the museum
The Kulturhaus in Raisting belongs to the Otto Hellmeier Foundation, established in 1991. It is named after Otto Hellmeier, born in Weilheim in 1908 and died in 1996, who first became known as an instrumentalist and soloist with leading orchestras and on the radio, but later devoted himself entirely to painting. He took lessons with well-known teachers, traveled to Switzerland, Austria, Italy and France, and for many years was a member of a long-established Munich artists' cooperative.
His specialty is motifs from the Bavarian Alpine foreland: snow-covered moorland over Lake Ammersee, banks of clouds in front of blue skies, as well as still lifes and portraits. His frugal lifestyle allowed him to leave behind a fortune, from which the Kulturhaus was built.
The exhibition rooms preserve the artistic estate and make it accessible to the public. The foundation also supports research into cancer and diabetes and helps seriously ill children in particular. The house also hosts exhibitions and concerts.
