About the museum
The Königlich privilegierte Feuerschützengesellschaft Weilheim maintains a marksmanship tradition that reaches back to the late Middle Ages; Weilheim marksmen are documented in records from 1467 onward at shooting events elsewhere. The shooting range on the Ammer has been documented for centuries; the present shooting house was rebuilt in 1822.
After several years of preparation, the marksmen opened their own museum in 1995 in rooms of the old shooting range. On display are trophies, banners, prize boards, pictures, badges, weapons and documents from the society's holdings, supplemented by loans from the town of Weilheim and from private owners.
The museum is cared for voluntarily by the society's museum team, which also leads visitors through the collection. For the 30th anniversary, a special exhibition on the Einwohnerwehr Bayern (Bavarian civic guard) from 1919 to 1921 was shown.
