About the museum
The Walkmühle was built in 1730 and used water power to process cloth. Around 1800 it received an elaborate neoclassical facade, reflecting the prosperity of the cloth makers. On the area between two arms of the Brenz, the fabrics were laid out to dry and bleach.
In the 20th century the building nearly fell into oblivion, but it was then comprehensively renovated. Since its completion in May 1994 it has served as a culture center for exhibitions, conferences, lectures, courses and events. The Bleichestadel (bleaching barn), renovated in 2012, is available mainly for cultural events.
On the upper floor, the Heimathaus (local heritage house) offers insights into the life of earlier centuries, including a farmhouse parlor, a maid's room and the permanent exhibition "Großmutters Küche" (Grandmother's Kitchen).
