Solo exhibition by the Nuremberg artist featuring drawings, photographs, sculptures and installations, including works created specifically for the Kunsthalle.

About the museum

The Kunsthalle Nürnberg was founded in 1967 as a municipal forum for contemporary art, making it one of the early exhibition halls of its kind in Germany. It occupies a building constructed in 1912/13 to plans by the engineer Otto Seegy as an art exhibition hall at the Marientor, which opened in October 1913. The building sits in the former city moat, right next to the old town wall.

The Kunsthalle has no collection of its own: the city's art holdings were given on permanent loan in 1997 to the then newly founded Neues Museum. Since then, the venue has worked exclusively with temporary exhibitions presenting international contemporary art and positions of the so-called second modernism since the 1960s – often as solo exhibitions for which artists develop new works specifically for the space.

Organizationally, the Kunsthalle is part of the City of Nuremberg's KunstKulturQuartier, which also includes the Kunsthaus, Kunstvilla and Künstlerhaus, among others. After about a year and a half of renovation, it reopened in October 2019; since then, eight new skylights with electrochromic glazing and upgraded lighting technology have provided adjustable daylight in the climate-controlled galleries. Harriet Zilch has directed the Kunsthalle since 2022.
