About the museum
The house on Emsstraße is an Ackerbürgerhaus (townsman-farmer's house) from 1767 in the historic center of Rietberg. Since 2007 it has housed the museum for the work of the artist Wilfried Koch, who lived in the district of Varensell and died in August 2022.
The Koch couple made about 100 paintings and around 700 drawings, as well as documents on his life and academic work, available to the Sparkassenstiftung Rietberg through an endowment gift (Zustiftung). Some of these are permanently on display in the Deele (hall), while other works rotate through exhibitions throughout the house.
The city of Rietberg also shows exhibitions by other artists here, together with the Stiftung der Sparkasse Rietberg. The museum includes the neighboring Klostergarten, a public park with bronze sculptures by Koch.
