About the museum
The Kutschenmuseum was opened on May 30, 2004. It displays the collection of Johann "Johnny" Hartmann, who gathered historic carriages and sleighs over more than twenty years and restored every piece himself. He privately financed the three-story building for the collection.
On display are more than 30 vehicles from the 18th and 19th centuries, including phaetons, chaises, hunting wagons and sleighs. They reflect the idea that, then as now, a carriage house held not just one vehicle but different ones for different occasions. The carriages are not only exhibited but also used on various occasions.
