About the museum
The Leutesdorf village museum goes back to the collecting passion of Willi Vermaaten, who for decades gathered evidence of local history. To preserve it permanently, he founded the association "Leutesdorfer Dorfmuseum", established on April 9, 2003. In 2005 Vermaaten transferred his entire local history collection to the association, which has since archived it and presented it to the public.
Since May 2011, the museum has had new, significantly larger exhibition rooms in the annex of the Leutesdorf community center on Oelbergstraße. On display are photographs and objects from earlier village life, such as the tools of cobblers and coopers, the laborious work of washday, the customs of organized neighborhood groups and portraits of well-known residents. A separate area is devoted to the winemaking trade, from the vineyard to the bottle, as befits a wine village.
The association also involves young people: school classes learn about the products and working methods of earlier times at the museum. The museum shop sells pewter figures of the Zolltor (toll gate), postcards, wine glasses and books on local history.
