About the museum

The museum belongs to the office of the Heimatkreis Mies-Pilsen e. V. (Mies-Pilsen home district association) in Dinkelsbühl. The association is a community of people expelled from the Mies district and the city of Pilsen in West Bohemia, their descendants, and friends. Since 1949 it has published its Heimatbrief (home newsletter); in 1953 the town of Dinkelsbühl took on sponsorship of the expelled residents of Mies, and the association was entered in the register of associations.

The collection documents the economic and cultural life of the region before 1945. It includes around 150 woodcuts and printing blocks by the artist Albert Gröschl, with landscapes of the Mies area; photographs from nearly all 140 villages of the district as well as from Pilsen; and minerals, traditional costumes, prayer books, porcelain, coins, and documents. A library with over 1,000 titles on regional literature and an archive for genealogical and family research complete the offering.
