About the museum
Since 1974 the Black Forest municipality of Schuttertal has been the sponsoring community of the Danube Swabian home community of Modosch. Modosch lies in the Banat; the emigration of Schuttertal farming families to the Batschka and the expulsion of the Modoschers after 1945 form the background of the collection. The Heimatstube (local heritage room) that grew out of this sponsorship is housed in the reading room of the Alte Rathaus. For decades the Modosch home gatherings were also held there; the 22nd gathering was also the last, after which the home community decided to dissolve.
The exhibition is small and local. Its centerpiece is a colored plan of the village of Modosch, in which plots and their owners are distinguished by nationality, and a large model of the Banat village. There are also small models, textiles, a faience fruit bowl, paintings and archival materials. A notebook records the names of those who died in 1945 in the camps at Stefansfeld and Molidorf. In Modosch Park, a memorial stone additionally commemorates emigration and expulsion.
